And… this is my CD! All songs Produced and Recorded at Palette with Jeff performing and co-writing on a number of the songs as well.
Nothing is as hard as trying to do the artwork for your own project. I wanted to have a “Country sort of rustic” look which would not only look good in print, but would also carry over to my website. Previously everything I had done for myself had a black background. Even the cover photo for the CD was on a dark, burgundy color tapestry. I was tired of the “dark” look and wanted to brighten everything up.
I searched around and finally found a photo of a tapestry that I liked. This was all well and good, but it was a flat photo so I needed to give it some dimension and added wrinkles and shadows so that it looked more like an actual piece of material. I needed to also come up with a background for the text as it would not have been readable over the top of the tapestry. My next search found a piece of aged paper that I could resize and burn and feather the edges to give it a slightly different look throughout. This even worked well as the background for the disc.
We actually worked on this CD in both California and Tennessee. The inside picture of me in the cowboy hat and our dog, Chris was actually taken by Shari Belafonte when she was filming the video for the CD’s title track in California. We didn’t have our little Corgi, Molly in the bottom right corner at that time, but wanted to add her in as well. Chris and I are in the desert and Molly is in the green grass of our backyard in Tennessee. I also created a business card to match the CD packaging from various elements of photos that Shari had taken.
